LG is now pushing its OLED technology to 8K for the upcoming CES 2018. the Korean manufacturer will be showing off its new 88-inch 8K OLED display, claiming the biggest and highest-resolution OLED on the market.
The company was too excited about its latest creation, so the company’s display arm introduced the world’s first most impressive display panel. The latest addition to its display lineup is an upgrade over LG’s existing 77-inch panel with 4K resolution. LG Electronics, Sony, and Panasonic currently offered the combination of 77 inches OLED screen size with 4K and all companies source their large OLED panels from LG Display.
LG Display CTO In-Byung Kang said in a statement that the company is accelerating its research and development into OLED as it will be a leader in the next-generation. The company promised to provide differentiated products to customers and markets with this technology.
4K OLED screens are somewhat affordable and 4K content is getting more common. Now, you really don’t need to be thinking about making the switch from 4K to 8K resolution right now.
LG Display stated that the 8K OLED displays will keep their slimmer design because the self-emissive OLEDs don’t need backlight units. To achieve the same level of brightness and picture quality as 4K products, backlight units need to be placed directly behind the panels so the upcoming 8K OLED display will be heavier and thicker.
However, the company has not revealed the pricing details for this new display but right now the 77-inch screen costs $20,000. Samsung’s 88-inch TV with QLED technology also costs $20,000.
OLED TVs are popular for their high picture quality with perfect black, more life-like colors, and wider viewing angles, the company noted.
